Differentiated Instruction Strategies Essay Assignment Instructions

Overview

Differentiated instruction is when a lesson is tailored to meet more than one academic level. We cannot expect our students to all be on the same level, so why would we design our math lessons that way? Differentiated instruction allows us to zero in more closely on individual needs. Through tiered lessons, we are better able to understand our students’ abilities and needs. In this lesson, you will select strategies that you can use in your classroom.

Review the Explore: 20 Differentiated Instruction Strategies and Examples item in the Learn section of Module 5: Week 5.

As you explore the website, consider your future classroom, grade level, and challenges you might face as a new teacher with a classroom of students of various abilities and learning styles.

Write a 2-3 page essay defining differentiated instruction. Pick one grade level and describe how you would incorporate 4-6 of the strategies into your math classroom.  Justify your choices and explain why they would be effective.

Format your essay using current APA formatting guidelines.
