Week 6 Brain & Behavior

Paper: Sleep Hygiene (Week 6)

Context

Sleep laboratories encounter many patients with stress–related sleep problems. Most sleep laboratories provide a list of sleep hygiene rules to facilitate a good night’s sleep. Some persons who experience insomnia due to multiple stressors may be encourage to implement stimulus control instructions. It may be hard to be objective about sleep habits, but most sleep neurologists recommend a sleep diary to consider an objective way to measure changes in sleep hygiene and sleep outcomes. These common  hygiene rules  and  diary formats  have been provided to you.

Description

Using your sleep diary, provide a summary in two to three pages regarding your experiences over the last two weeks in efforts to monitor your sleep. What strategies did you implement, and what struggles did you encounter and/or overcome? How successful were you initiating adaptive sleep hygiene, and what were the results? Do you have insomnia at times, and have you tried stimulus control instructions? What were your experiences and results? What surprised you about changing sleep habits? What behavioral trends will you use in the future? Again, use your sleep diary to help you provide more objective data.
